Amoxil
Amoxil (
amoxicillin) is a penicillin-like antibiotic used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria. It is efficient in the treatment of infections of the urinary tract, throat, skin, nose and ears, as well as such health conditions as gonorrhea and bronchitis. Take this medicine as prescribed and make sure you use the entire amount of the medication prescribed by your health care provider, as otherwise a relapse of infection is possible. The tablets and capsules of Amoxil should be taken whole without crushing or chewing them, while chewable tablets, as the name suggests, should be chewed thoroughly before being swallowed. If you stop the treatment before it's time the bacteria in the body can become resistant to the effects of antibiotics. In case of being allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin or cephalosporins you may not be able to take this medicine as the same reaction is likely to happen again. If you have taken Amoxil anyway you can experience hives, rash, difficulty breathing, and swelling of y our face, throat, lips and tongue.
In case of taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, as well as nutritional supplements or vitamins report their names to your doctor to make sure the dosage you are prescribed will be efficient and will not cause serious side effects. Make sure you mention the following medications in case of taking them or planning to take them: chloramphenicol and probenecid. The doses of the medications you are taking and Amoxil may need to be changed to make sure there are no dangerous interactions. There are also a number of health conditions that you should report to your health care provider if you ever had them: kidney disease, asthma, hay fever, allergies, and phenylketonuria are among them.
Try not to forget about taking a dose of Amoxil, but if you did, do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed, as this is not going to increase the efficiency of your treatment and can cause some unpleasant side effects. Amoxil is generally well tolerated by most patients with only a few side effects reported, such as vomiting, diarrhea, and upset stomach. Serious side effects are uncommon but make sure you report them to your doctor if you think you may be having one of them: severe skin rash, excessive tiredness, unusual bleeding or bruising, pale skin, yellowing of the skin or eyes, seizures and lack of energy. Although this medicine is not expected to cause harm to an unborn baby Amoxil can pass into breast milk and affect the health of a nursing infant. When taking this drug you should be aware of the fact Amoxil can make birth control pills less effective, which may result in a pregnancy.
